Some high-precision hinges are the result of so-called "squeezing" or pressing metal into a mold under extreme pressure. After the hot and cold metal undergoes the extrusion process, the final hinge product is usually thicker than the stamped one. Extrusion hinges can also be used in very demanding construction and aerospace industries.
The extrusion process first heats the raw material (for hot extrusion or cold extrusion), and then puts it into the container of the press. A dummy block is placed behind the press; the ram presses on the material to push it out of the mold. After stretching and straightening, it can be heat treated or cold worked.
